Message from the
Principal
Dear Parents It is with great pleasure that I welcome you and your family to Our Lady Help of Christians school community. The Sisters of the Good Samaritan founded our school, with ninety-four students, in February 1966. The first six principals, from 1966 until 1980, were religious sisters. I am the fourth lay principal of this school. We remember the sisters by the wearing of our school uniform, a tradition begun by the sisters. Our school aims to develop the whole person in each child – intellectual, physical, social and spiritual. This is done in an atmosphere of care and support, nurturing your child’s gifts. We are one of the fifteen Catholic schools and colleges that are situated in the Diocese of Port Pirie in country South Australia. We take our direction from the South Australian Commission for Catholic schools [SACCS]. The Vision Statement of SACCS provides an overarching context for all Catholic schools in South Australia. Catholic schools, in partnership with parents, in union with Christ’s saving mission and school communities educate young people for participation in the Church and world communities today. We implement this vision through the curriculum. The South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability [SACSA] Framework provides a sound basis for the organisation of learning activities within our school. We are a Catholic school and therefore the Religious Education curriculum and observance is an important part of our school life. I feel very privileged to be the leader of this community of people with a common goal, the education of your children. You have a critical role to play in the education of your child. We work in partnership with you and a cooperative relationship between home and school is very important. I trust that you will enjoy a long-standing relationship with our school.
